Definitely Cooking...A New Remix!

Realboy is cooking and at work. Back again so soon already releasing a new remix for INNERPARTYSYSTEM "Not Getting Any Better". They again have amazed me by throwing a "chop genre" and moving into a more mellow but bass heavy groover. They also do a great job with the vocals. These guys are on a roll, can't wait to see what they have in store for the future here, and hopefully some new great summer remixes.

INNERPARTYSYSTEM- Not Getting Any Better (Realboy Remix) by Realboy

Digitalism

These two Germans are musical geniuses. With the release of their upcoming album “2 Hearts” they are creating lots of hype for this summer. One of the major headliners for HARD Summer, they plan on playing a live set which is bound to be spectacular. For those that do not know what the difference between a live set and a DJ set, it’s them playing mp3s versus instruments. Live sets are always so interesting and usually incredible to watch as any live band would be. Most people think that Dj’s are talentless and only know how to click buttons on the computer to make music and that anyone can do it, this is definitely not the case. After watching some live sets you should instantly realize that these guys are MUSICIANS and they know what they are doing, they aren’t computer geeks who happened to master a production program.

Their new album is something that I can’t seem to put my finger on, but not in a bad way. In fact, I am actually intrigued by the direction they chose to go with the album and the diversity it has in comparison to the majority of the electronic music being produced today. With most of the tracks having vocals, it is a much less “dance” oriented album, yet at the same time its backed with the genius of Digitalism which gives it the flare it needs to be viable on the dance floor. This new album definitely gets my seal of approval.

Here is their first single off of their new album I Love you, Dude, "2 hearts"

And a personal favorite of mine

Soulwax and 2manydjs

The two godfathers of electronic music as we know it today. These guys have been around for awhile and continue to carry on an untouched legacy. The two Dewal brothers who founded Soulwax and 2manydjs are critically aclaimed as two of the most talented performers in the industry for both their live sets as Soulwax and at the tables as 2manydjs. They are the upringers of the mashup and have kickstarted modern day "Raves" to what they are today. They began DJing because they were bored on tour and they didn't like the DJs at the clubs, so they just asked to take over and 2manydjs was born. These guys have taken over DJing and taken it to the next level. With them touring as Soulwax and playing as 2manydjs they also make time to produce their own albums although progression seems to come very slow for these guys.

Here is a video of them live at HARD Summer last year, and a remix of one of their biggest hits.

"Kids" by MGMT, remixed by Soulwax.

Clouds

This guy is filthy. Although he sometimes gets carried away in his overwhelming dirty and grungy sound he also has the ability to create something that takes use of the perfect amount combined with his catchy vocals. He has a very bass orientated style and his chopped vocals and "beepy" house sounds display this guys nature and what line he is walking in the EDM scene. Signed to Turbo Records, run by Tiga, he gets to produce alongside some of the greats, and throw out some great remixes and originals for others to cut into. He is a great new addition to the label, giving them the younger and newer sound to look forward to in the coming years.

Wtih support from very big names such as Erol Alkan, who played "Sucker" in his HARD Summer Mix 2010 for last years festival. Getting someone like this to play your track can only mean good things, and better things to come.

Justice

Yes, another one of the famous and most known on the Ed Banger Records, Justice. The frenchmen  Gaspard AugĂ© and Xavier de Rosnay are iconic for their single D.A.N.C.E., a dedication to Micheal Jackson and their remix of MGMT "Electric Feel" which won a Grammy award for the best remixed song. With one of the most visually exhilirating music videos attached to the song it makes it even better. Their remix of "Electric Feel" by MGMT portrays their true style. These guys are the new generation of rock and roll with their grungy metal sounds. Some say they sound like Metallica but reinvented for the future.  Their live sets from their tour for "A Cross The Universe", their new album was also one of the best live set tours I have watched through their documentary on tour. Throwing down edits and really mixing and chopping their own productions they are able to throw down some truly danceable sets.

Here is D.A.N.C.E. with the music video

And my favorite song personally "Waters of Nazareth".

Simian Mobile Disco

These guy's are phenomenal. I have seen quite countless live shows, and DJ sets and theirs was by far the most epic. Accompanied by some of the most amazing lights in the industry these guys know what they are doing knob for knob literally. Apart from their amazing music, their live sets are nothing like anyone's that I have seen before. James Ford and Jas Shaw are two of the most impressive producers around and they take their production skills to the stage with them. Their setup is unique because they travel with their analog synthesizers unlike the majority of people who use plugins for various DAW programs and get them setup before the show. Both of these guys walk around for an hour straight, twisting knobs and pressing buttons. They re-create all of their music live on stage with these analog synthesizers. If you are looking for one of the most fantastic live shows of your life, these guys are who you want to keep your eye on to do so.

Here is a video of a part of their set. *Caution* if you have epilepsy.

Felix Cartal at Our House Records

(Left to Right: Felix Cartal, Austin and Daniel [Realboy], Random Camera Guy)

This guy is a Canadian Powerhouse. One of DIM MAK’s finest. This guy has been throwing down around the world for a few years now and has begun to develop a sound that is massive consisting of large buildups with very hard powerful drops. Most of the tracks he creates are bangers indeed and get the crowd moving on every occasion. His newest EP Solar/Lunar were some of my favorite tracks to date by him, especially Solar. The power that Felix Cartal gets behind his hard hitting electro house is always something worth going out to see, so I did it. Coincidentally, my friends Austin and Daniel of Realboy happened to be opening for him on April 30th at 330 Rich Street in San Francisco. I decided to make a weekend of it.

After leaving Friday afternoon the journey was very long. I got to Realboy’s house at around 11 P.M. The next day was big for them, as well as preparation over at Our House Records and dealing with Felix (Taylor). After picking him up at the airport, and taking him to his hotel I stuck around with Realboy as they created their set and prepared for the night, now, onto Felix and his set. I really enjoyed watching him light up such a tight knit show full of fans from all over San Francisco. I have never been to that many smaller shows and it really opened my eyes to the “closeness”. Nevertheless, Felix threw down hard…he had me going throughout his entire set. I was very impressed and even had the chance to exchange a few words with him in the back room, but nothing of importance was really said. Mostly small talk, either way, it’s always cool to communicate with artists who are moving forward with success.

Hey Today!

Ever since last summer these guys continue to appear all over. This German duo has created some of the biggest remixes for some of the biggest names in EDM in the past year. With last summer’s remix of Tiga’s “You Gonna Want Me” these guys continued to bring their heavy techno sound with them. Another huge remix they did was for Boys Noize’s “Nerve” which was a heavy hitter. Not only have they released tracks for Lectroluv and BNR, but also Ed Banger which shows that these guys know what they are doing, and can do it with some of the best. With lots of support from Busy P whom is consistently playing their songs at shows, but they have also remixed a new song for him “Procrastinator” that was included on the Bee Sides. They have also just finished their new EP which again displays the heavy techno sound that they stand by.

Here is their new single Minor

Siriusmo

Siriusmo, also known as Mourice Fredrich from Berlin, Germany, is hands down my favorite producer of all time. Although quiet, shy, and studio mad his style falls completely out of the ordinary with that of the current electronic music producers in the EDM scene. He is not known for his live performances, which is partly due to his stage freight. His most recent album “Mosaik” redefines perfection. As many people know, a mosaic is a collection of art and his album is exactly that. It follows no pattern as some of his previous albums like his previous album “The Uninvited Guest”, but it packs the same punch.

One of the reasons Siriusmo is my favorite producer is because of his style and the way he creates his songs. Most EDM producers create their music in an 8-16-32 bar pattern that is consistent with breakdowns and buildups.  Within each Siriusmo track there is a “story”, and a metaphor behind what he is trying to evoke. For example, “Blaune Sonne” or “Blue Sun” he creates a blue sun and displays the power behind it. Infused with vocals that contribute to the energy of the song this song will continue to be one of my favorites because of its message. His songs are much more producer happy then dance happy.

Here is a great video interview of him where he explains his music, as well as spraying his graffiti art that is really good.

Also, Blaune Sonne which is my favorite track by him at the moment.

The Big Bad Wolf

(Armand Van Helden and A-trak)

Reviving disco and making a fusion of their own. That is how I would explain the duo Duck Sauce which consists of Armand Van Helden as well as the head of Fool’s Gold who is also considered one of the best turntablists of all time, A-trak. These two guys created Duck Sauce in 2009 and they really blew up in the last year after the release of Barbra Streissand. This hit sparked lots of attention these two received  because of its widespread success. Both of these guys also plan to take the stage at this summer’s HARD Summer which I am looking forward to ontop of all the other names I have already mentioned. Currently they appear to be headlining and have a high possibility of going on at midnight. With their style, they are sure to keep the crowd grooving for an hour straight without the need to bust out anything more than their classy disco’esque style. These guys already threw down at Coachella this year, and I expect big things from them on August 6th

Here’s Barbra Streissand, and a video of them melting faces at Coachella.

No offense, but you are a Realboy aren't you?

Although I talked about my friends Realboy already, I can't get enough of their new track, Arrival (Realboy Remix). This song has beauty crawling all over it and I cannot seem to stop listening to it. The intricate message behind the song also strikes me as very interesting.

The beginning of the song represents the view that we have towards aliens and that we are fearful of them so if in the event we encountered them, it would not be a good one. At 2:13, it really hits you as to the feelings towards aliens and how we depict them as monsters who will only cause destruction. After the song drops again, the melodies of the aliens depicts the complete opposite through its happy and harmless sound. Not only does this tie into the prespective on aliens, but also outsiders in general and how humans instinctly reject and shutdown things they are not comfortable with.

This song I definitely consider the duo's best to date. The unique creation of each one of their songs continues to amaze me and gives me hope for their future because they will NEVER get old with the variety they are throwing around.

Alex Ridha

Also known as Boys Noize, this guy is one of the best performers and producers out there dominating, and running the scene. He runs a record label called Boys Noize Records with some of the biggest names out there in the EDM scene. Here are some of these astounding artists: D.I.M., Djedjotronic, Housemeister, Les Petits Pilous, Mixhell, Shadow Dancer, Rynecologist, Noob, Strip Steve...and more. His record is a powerhouse and can be compared to some of the other major labels out there today like DIM MAK, Ed Banger, Turbo, and Fool's Gold. Aside from running his own record label he is also a fantastic artist with some of the most power and energy in his tracks. On top of this, he is an amazing performer, and is known for having tons of skill as a DJ. Many artists complain about the deviated structure of his music and how it is extremely difficult to mix, his response, "They are my secret weapons".

Let's watch him drop a bomb on the crowd.

Techno

Techno, the most overused as well as ignorant word used to identify all electronic music. Although it is understandable for those who are uneducated in this field, here is some information for those that fall into this category of the uninformed. Techno is another one of the million sub genres of electronic music, but it happens to be a larger one at that.

Currently their is one man who stands above all in this field, and of course, he's French. Gesaffelstein emerged a few months ago with the help of countrymen Busy P who I discussed earlier. During Miami music week, one of the biggest and craziest weeks in Miami especially for electronic music. Partying for a week straight is another way to put it. Well at one of Ed Bangers parties, Busy P alongside DJ Mehdi revealed a gem from the world of techno, Zzafrica(Gesaffelstein Remix). This song, which Busy P claims is the remix of the year has my vote. His exquisite techno is unmatched. The powerful drive he is able to derive from one of the more basic forms of electronic music astounds me. This is another name to look out for, and another I won't be missing at this years HARD Summer.

Here is the "Remix of the year" to satisfy your hunger.

Breakbot

One of the newest editions to Ed Banger, Jesus. After being signed in 2009 Breakbot has been creating some of the grooviest tracks that we have heard in a long time. After last years summer hit "Baby I'm Yours" he is only becoming bigger and bigger. Although his production does not consist of the "bangers" that most people go to shows to see, he is capable of throwing down great sets. When I saw him at HARD Summer last year I was very impressed with what he had to bring and continued to follow his success. His groovy style continues to grow with every release and have yet to be disappointed with him. His production's are not only groovy, but he is definitely a studio hound. The perfect placement of all his sounds come from hours in the studio and the complexity of his sound proves his musical talent. This frenchmen is undoubtedly going to be around for awhile bringing back the funk.

Here are a few of my favorite tracks by Breakbot.
